Occupational Therapy clinic based service offering Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). AAT has been shown to increase engagement and motivation during therapy sessions.
If you or someone you look after finds it difficult to engage with more traditional therapies, AAT could be for you! It allows someone to engage with therapy through an animal.
Here at Liberty Occupational Therapy we are passionate about clients achieving their goals and increasing their freedom.
At Liberty Occupational Therapy we have two certified Therapy dogs through Therapy Dogs Australia, Kuma and Miku. Kuma and Miku will work with the Occupational Therapist to work on your or someone you look after goals. Goals could includes fine motor skills, emotional regulation, mental health, increasing confidence, routine building, and many more. If you have a particular goal in mind contact us and we can see how Kuma can help achieve this goal!
Occupational Therapists help people do the things they want to be able to do. The sky is the limit! Sometimes it can be a piece of equipment like a wheelchair, mobility scooter or ramp, other times it might be working on identifying goals and working with other supports to achieve those goals.
Marleen has done additional training which allows her to assess and complete reports for the NDIS Complex Home Modifications. This might be when you want a step-less shower, a more accessible kitchen or widen doorways in your home so that you are able to access all aprts of the home! Marleen is the Occupational Therapist at Liberty Occupational Therapy. Marleen started Liberty Occupational Therapy to provide AAT to clients in the South West. Marleen is passionate about client achieving their goals and working with their supports to continue to achieve goals after occupational therapy finishes.
Kuma is a 6-year-old Field Spaniel, who was first certified to be a therapy dog in 2021. To be certified Kuma had to pass an obedience and temperament assessment. Kuma has previously visited aged care facility with Marleen to bring joy to people. Kuma is a calm and fun dog who loves meeting people, and will help clients achieve their goals.
Miku is a 3-year-old Labrador Retriever, who was first certified to be a therapy dog in 2023, she had to pass an obedience and temperament test for this. Miku brings energy to her session, and loves nothing more than engaging clients in throwing her ball or giving her a nice back scratch!
